2025 New Regulation: Power Banks Must Have 3C Certification to Board Flights

Starting from June 28, Chinese domestic airports have implemented new regulations requiring that all portable power banks carried on board must have 3C certification. Otherwise, they will be confiscated and cannot be brought onto the plane.

Only Enforced at Chinese Airports - Does It Affect You?

Currently, this policy is only enforced at Chinese airports. Whether it will extend to high-speed rail or other railway transportation in the future is still unknown. If you fly to mainland China from Hong Kong, there is no issue on the outbound journey. However, on your return trip or if you transit within China, your power bank will be confiscated if it does not have CCC certification.

Why Do Power Banks Need 3C Certification for Flights in China?

In 2025, there have been multiple incidents in China where passengers power banks or other lithium battery products caught fire or emitted smoke on flights. On June 26, the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued an emergency notice banning passengers from carrying power banks without 3C certification, with unclear 3C markings, or those from recalled models or batches on domestic flights starting June 28.

CCC (China Compulsory Certification) is a mandatory product certification system established by the Chinese government to protect consumer safety, national security, and environmental protection. It ensures that products meet safety and quality standards. Power banks are high-power lithium battery products, and without certification, they pose significant safety risks.
